Most every microphone has just a single metal screen thus making it imperative that we use external pop filters. Heil Sound has brought a better idea to the table in the windscreens of their PR 30 and PR 40. They use TWO screens. The inner one has smaller openings while the outer screen that you actually see has a large opening. This breaks up the breath blasts and diverts them from hitting the microphone diaphragm directly. A very coarse acoustically transparent foam is mounted on top of the element. This unique treatment allows the PR 40 to handle breath blasts better than any current microphone on the market. - Bob Heil
